About Diversity University Executive Leadership

Patti Massey

President, Myca-Pope, Inc.

One of the founding partners of Mycom Group, Inc., Patti has been a successful entrepreneur for more than 20 years. In 2000, she was instrumental in taking the company public and in 2001 she sold her interest to another technology firm.

In early 2002, Patti's training company, Myca Group & Associates, joined forces with Pope & Associates to create a subsidiary, Myca-Pope, Inc., offering diversity coaching services and a wide variety of eLearning products. The EDGE Advantage© and The TEAM Advantage© have been adopted by major corporations as "best practice" e-learning tools and as pre-work for traditional classroom training. In addition, she has created a learning reinforcement tool that is delivered directly to participant's email addresses and provides a continual reinforcement of learning as well as an opportunity to test and measure progress against learning goals. Several additional products are under development and will soon be added to Myca-Pope's proprietary Diversity University Learning Management System.

On the forefront of developing eLearning delivery and measurement techniques in a variety of market segments, Patti has the unique ability to both envision innovative approaches to training delivery and retention as well as the skills for implementation.

Throughout her career in marketing and technology, Patti has interacted with senior level executives at Fortune 100 companies to develop programs that drive change initiatives and foster better communications, as well as more effective intra-group dynamics. Her driving commitment is to develop and deploy creative solutions that deliver powerful, measurable results.

Patti is a recent graduate of the renowned B\Coach Executive Program that is designed to probe beneath the surface to better understand the motivations and foundational beliefs that guide behavior. Specializing in Emotional Intelligence, this year-long coach mastery program has provided her with an in-depth understanding of the dynamics of interpersonal relationships.

Patricia C. Pope

Chief Executive Officer, Pope & Associates; Partner, Myca-Pope

A pioneer in diversity measurement, training and consulting, Patricia Pope has worked to create an inclusive workplace for more than 250 Fortune 500 companies since 1976. Ms. Pope, one of the partners of Myca-Pope and Chief Executive Officer of Pope & Associates, Inc., and her late husband, Merlin G. Pope Jr., founded one of the nation's first diversity consulting firms who literally coined the term "diversity" in 1977 to refer to the changing demographics of the workforce.

Pat plays a dominant role in developing comprehensive diversity training and awareness programs that have been hailed as "life changing" by managers and employees from companies such as the Procter & Gamble Co., Eli Lilly & Company, Yale-New Haven Hospital, General Motors, Chevron Products Company, 3M Corporation, Johnson & Johnson and many others. In 1998, one of Pope & Associates' clients, Wisconsin Electric Power Company, was cited as a U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Best Practices Company for its use of an alternative dispute resolution process, Consulting Pairs©, a process created by Merlin Pope and refined by Pat over the last 25 years.

Pat is the author of a book, "Relationship Mapping: A Tool for Diagnosing Relationships™." Her next book, "The Illusion of Inclusion™," examines the tendency for some women and people of color at senior levels to confuse their position/title with inclusion in the inner circle of power and influence, a topic she has been researching since 1990. She also has developed several innovative measurement tools to examine inclusion issue and team dynamics.

Pat applies her expertise in diversity to help her own community. She has participated in numerous local forums addressing the issue of diversity including the Chairman's Roundtable on Public Safety that focused on improving the relationship between the police and the community. In honor of her outstanding work in the Cincinnati community and the successful growth of her company, she was selected as a finalist for the Business Woman of the Year award presented by the Business Courier in 2000. Pat was accepted to the 2000 Leadership Cincinnati class, a prestigious leadership development program through the Greater Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce and served on the Steering Committee for two years, and now chairs the Youth Leadership Diversity Program which is sponsored by both the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky Chambers of Commerce. Pat currently serves on the Executive Advisory Board for the School of Business at Xavier University, and the Women's Initiative Board of the United Way in Butler County.

In 2002 Pat provided expert analysis and commentary for a Fox 19 television program called "Breaking Polite Silence" which won a local Emmy award for best interview format program.

In memory of the work of her late husband, Pat established the Merlin G. Pope, Jr. Founders Medallion Scholarship Fund for minority students majoring in Sociology at Kent State University. She has also been successful in establishing two national awards in recognition of his work. In July, 2002 the U.S. Army Reserve began a new annual NCO award for Diversity/EEOC Excellence in his name. Locally, the Cincinnati Human Relations Commission also recognizes a leader in the Greater Cincinnati area who has demonstrated diversity leadership within their organization and the community with the Merlin G. Pope, Jr. Diversity Leadership Award.

Pat did her undergraduate work in business and social sciences at The Union Institute & the University of Cincinnati and earned a master's degree in organizational development from Pepperdine University. She is a frequent lecturer and speaker at national conferences, annual business meetings and seminars addressing diversity and inclusion issues.
